Criminal Defence FAQs
When Can I Contact a Criminal Defence Solicitor?
Criminal defence solicitors will help you if you’re suspected or accused of a crime. Solicitors can represent you, and ensure your legal rights are protected. You can contact us if you have been arrested, are on police bail, are facing an investigation or are being prosecuted for a regulatory offence.
How Long Will the Criminal Court Proceedings Take?
The overall length of court proceedings will depend on the nature of the offence. The severity of the crime will determine whether the matter is heard in a Magistrates’ Court or Crown Court.
If a matter is contested at trial at the Crown Court, it could take anything from a few months to over 12 months to conclude. However, it’s unlikely that you’ll be required to wait longer than a couple of months for a trial in the Magistrates’ Court.
How Long Should You Wait Before Getting a Solicitor?
You should contact a criminal defence solicitor as soon as you become aware that you are being accused of an offence. It’s important to contact a solicitor as soon as possible, so they can explain your rights and tell you what to expect.
