Howells LLP’s criminal law department has been rated excellent in a recent comprehensive review of its work by the Legal Services Commission – one of less than 5% of law firms throughout the UK to achieve this top ranking.

The excellence ranking was awarded after a team of independent experts took a close look at a selection of recent cases handled by the firm, looking at every aspect of the teams’ work, from initial advice at police stations when people were first arrested, through to representation in the Magistrates and Crown Courts.

The final report highlighted a number of areas of good practice, including the high standards of case management, lawyers’ proactive approach to progressing cases to try and achieve the best outcome for clients, good preparation for court cases, and the provision of sound legal advice with a realistic assessment of the likely outcomes.

Overall, there were no areas of concern and no areas for improvement, resulting in the excellence grading.
