£1million contract for Howells’ telephone advice service

Howells Solicitors has been awarded a £1m contract from the Legal Services Commission (LSC) to deliver debt and welfare benefits advice through a dedicated telephone service.

Staff at Howells Direct, part of Howells Solicitors, who deliver Community Legal Advice are celebrating after receiving the news that they have been awarded the new contracts due to start in July. Not only is this great news for the South Yorkshire Law firm, it will also create more job opportunities in South Yorkshire as Howells will be recruiting additional staff to cover the demand of the contracts.

Howells was ranked first amongst the bidders for the contracts which are to run for 9 months. Over this period Howells staff will be advising over 10,000 clients and assisting them with sorting out their debts and dealing with welfare benefits appeals and reviews.

Legal Director Pam Kenworthy commented on the win: “We are delighted to have been awarded these contracts, it is recognition of the high quality of the work done by our telephone teams. Looking forward, we are hopeful that this also places us in good stead for future contracts which will be awarded in April 2013”.

Following an in-depth evaluation, the LSC made the decision to award Howells Solicitors an interim CLA Specialist Telephone Legal Advice Contract in the Welfare, Benefits and Debt Categories of Law.
