Grandparents Plus, Save the Children and the Family Child Care Trust have each published a new report which shows  grandparents are a hidden army of carers. The study shows that 1.9 million grandparents have cut working hours to look after their grandchildren. These grandparents have either given up their job altogether to care for their grandchildren or reduced their working hours. The study suggested that grandparents have been given a total of £8 billion in the past year for a range of grandchildren’s needs. The charity’s stress that more work needs to be done to recognise the significant time and financial pressures grandparents are under care for the nations children.

Howells Solicitors are working together with Grandparents Plus and voluntary group Sheffield 50 Plus. If you would like any further information on grandparents or siblings as carers and their legal rights, contact us on 01142496666.
