Howells Supports Rotherham’s Future Artists and Designers

Rotherham College Art and Design students’ end of year Diploma Show at the Old Market Gallery on Keppel Wharf was opened last month by Mary Rose Macadam, Partner at Howells Solicitors.

The exhibition, sponsored by Howells, showed a collection of work from some of Rotherham’s most promising youngsters, celebrating their efforts and successes from this academic year.

The event also rounded off another great year of support for the college from Howells Solicitors, who sponsor several events throughout the college calendar.

Earlier on in the year a group of Level 3 and Higher Education students visited Rome as part of the annual European residential trip, giving them the chance to experience different cultures, visit the many famous museums and galleries and gather inspiration for their final major projects.

Mary Rose Macadam, Partner at Howells Solicitors said “We have supported RCAT for many years now and we still find it rewarding to help students get ahead in their chosen careers. We were happy to sponsor part of the college trip as it was an important chance for the students to see the artistic culture of Rome. Hopefully they will have taken away some great inspiration from the experience.”

The Rotherham law firm also works with a group of students every year, providing a real-life brief and competition, with the winner receiving a cash prize and the chance to have their work printed and used by Howells Solicitors, providing a great addition to the students CV.

This year the students were briefed to design a range of promotional materials to promote the work that Howells does with their charity of the year; Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. The winning artwork, designed by Dale Richard, is now on display in Howells offices.

Rounding the year off and to celebrate the vast variety of excellent work completed by the students, Howells sponsored and opened the end of year Diploma Show last month.

“It’s been an honour to be involved in this event and to be here for the private viewing.” said Mary Rose, Partner at Howells Solicitors. “The exhibition is a credit to Rotherham and I’m so proud of the students and the staggering qualify of their work. It is also very inspiring to see so many of the students going onto degrees and university”.

Gwen Plant, Curriculum Manager for Visual and Performing Arts at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology said: “The exhibition shows how Art and Design students have completed assignments to produce work which is both varied and innovative in approach. These students have put a lot of work into their exhibitions and it’s a great opportunity to showcase their talents.

“I would also like to thank Howells Solicitors for being our sponsors of this event, we are fortunate to receive such good support from our local businesses.”
