The conveyancing department at Howells Solicitors has recently welcomed a new head of department, Elizabeth Webster.
An expert in property law and conveyancing, Liz joins at an exciting period of expansion and development for the team. Here we talk to Liz to find out a little about her and her vision for the team. Particularly on keeping clients at the heart of the process.
Liz has joined Howells from a firm based in West Yorkshire. She brings a wealth of experience having specialised in property and conveyancing for over 20 years.
Liz originally worked in Civil Litigation. “I started working in conveyancing when I was a Legal Executive in 2000, initially expecting to go back to litigation. However I found that it was an area of law that really suited. The combination of having the personal interaction with clients and the methodical processes of the work really appealed. I have stayed in this area of law ever since.”
Qualifying as a solicitor in 2007, Liz has worked in smaller high street law firms as well as large organisations as partner and head of her department. She says “I much prefer working in a medium sized law firm. You get the best of both worlds with the personable and friendly client care that you usually associate with smaller law firms, alongside the modern technologies and systems usually found in larger organisations.”
On joining Howells, she says “I was interested in joining Howells as the firm’s values, ethos and approach to client care is what I strive to achieve with all my clients. Conveyancing is much more than just a process; people like direct contact with their solicitor, someone who is friendly and approachable, helping them through what can be a stressful time. To me, client satisfaction is job satisfaction. I speak to all my clients personally and retain those personable values that can so easily be lost. Combining those values with all of the modern technologies that help the transaction process much more efficient made Howells a great fit for me.”
A keen snowboarder and traveller, Liz is originally from Wakefield. Having lived in various places including South Africa and West Yorkshire, Liz has recently re-located to South Yorkshire with her young family. “The firm’s commitment to being family friendly is really important to many of the employees here including myself. It was certainly an attraction when joining. It’s easy to see that the clients and employees are at the centre of the business.”
Based predominantly in the firm’s Sheffield office, she will head up the department covering all offices in Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley.
As the new Head of Department, looking forward to what her aims and aspirations are for the team, Liz says “the focus for the team is strike a great balance between happy clients and a happy working environment. With structure, development and support, staff are motivated and this shows in their work. Having happy and satisfied clients are the aim of everything we do. We are a team that provides exceptional client care alongside the very best legal work.”
