We are very pleased to hear that “no-fault divorces” will come into force on 6th April 2022.
This week, Ministers have announced that the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020, will allow married couples to divorce without assigning blame. These changes will come in from next April.
Head of the Family Department Alyson Siddall says:
“News of a set date for no fault divorces to come into force is extremely welcomed.
Although the date is later than originally indicated, it is great news that divorcing couples will no longer have to assign blame in order to be granted a divorce. For 35 years I have been a family law specialist and I have seen first hand how the present system makes an already stressful time even more upsetting. By allowing couples to divorce without assigning blame, it will make it easier for parties to resolve other issues such as finances and disputes over children more easily.”
