The newly released 2014 edition of Chambers UK has once again recognised Howells Solicitors as one of the top law firms in South Yorkshire.
Howells has maintained excellent rankings, with the Crime department ranked as the number one firm in Yorkshire. Quoted as being “at the forefront of high-profile criminal defence work in the area” and with “special expertise in youth crime and cases with a human rights dimension.”
Solicitor Chris Davey is personally highlighted for being “known for her client care skills and skilful Crown Court preparatory work.”
The Immigration department has also one again been highly ranked, noted for their work in the regions “encompassing human rights and asylum expertise.” Solicitor Carita Thomas has been praised “for her excellent work with vulnerable clients, particularly victims of trafficking.”
A new ranking for 2014 has been awarded to the Clinical Negligence department who have been “recognised by the market for its strong presence in Sheffield” and whose client care is quoted as being “sympathetic, practical and tough negotiators on behalf of clients.” Individual recognition has been given to Solicitors Tania Harrison and Michelle Gyte who heads the department.
Other areas maintaining their rankings include Howells work in Civil Liberties, Human Rights and Police Law.
Managing Partner and Head of the Civil Liberties team, Peter Mahy, remains highly ranked throughout the whole of the UK in Police, Administrative and Public Law as well as Civil Liberties and Human Rights. As quoted by Chambers; “Peter Mahy heads the department and has advised on a number of high-profile cases taken to both the House of Lords and the ECHR.”
