This month we are thrilled to boast a new addition to our Partnership team. John Clegg, 37, who specialises in divorce and family matters involving finances and children, was this month welcomed as a Partner.
We this month celebrate our 41st birthday and welcome John Clegg as Partner after a successful 11 years as a divorce solicitor.
“We’re very pleased to report to the wider team and clients the news of John’s appointment. Myself and the other Partners couldn’t be happier welcoming John as a Partner.” Says Simon Sheldon, Partner.
Partner and Head of Family Law, Alyson Siddall, says “John has been an outstanding member of the team and is an excellent lawyer. John has always had an excellent reputation across the city and beyond. I am thrilled to announce after 14 years with us he has taken the step up to partnership.”
John began his legal career here at Howells in 2006 initially practicing criminal law before qualifying into family law.
“Howells is rather ingrained in my DNA. My first ever taste of the world of work was here when I did work experience at the old Spital Hill office in 1998” says John “I was happy to be able to train to be a Solicitor here at a firm with a particular sense of social conscience and given the opportunity to grow and develop.
“I’ve remained at Howells so many years because of high importance placed upon client care, quality of work and how committed the firm has always been to helping those in need.”
During his years here at Howells, John has attained Resolution Accredited status as a specialist family law practitioner.
John is also a member of a voluntary organisation called Resolution which promotes dealing with family law issues in a constructive way and focusing upon the needs of any children involved. He is a Resolution local committee member to promote those causes and input into the administration of local justice. He also teaches at Law classes at The Sheffield College for those seeking to qualify into the profession.
Speaking of his desire to become a Solicitor, John says “I became a lawyer because I wanted to help people and that has always been the centre of what we are here to do at Howells.
“When I started in family law it seemed the perfect fit. Clients are generally in the most vulnerable and difficult position in their lives. By the end of the process all of those difficulties have been resolved and they can look positively to the future so I’ve always found it very rewarding.”
Looking to the future of Howells, John says “It has been a momentous year, along with this year’s mention in the Legal 500. The world faces uncertain times at the moment but good legal advice is more in demand than ever. I am really looking forward to the next chapter and driving the work of Howells forwards with my fellow partners. I hope to be able to contribute in the same positive way to the local area as they have done over the years.”
John Clegg will fulfil his position as Partner alongside his duties as Divorce and Family law Solicitor, where he supports families with issues involving their children, domestic abuse, Divorce and matters involving finances.
