Advances in technology mean that from June 2018, drivers will be able to use remote control parking on British roads for the first time. This means that if a driver has an app on their mobile phone, they can use the app to park their car, as there is no more than 6 metres between the car and the mobile phone. The signal must be maintained all of the time.

This will be particularly welcome for motorists with mobility problems, who may historically have struggled with parking their cars. Of course, caution would need to be exercised, as you would not be able to absolve all responsibility in the event of an accident.

This is one of very few exceptions to the law against holding a mobile device while driving.
