‘No Fault’ divorce a welcome change to divorce law

Welcome news this week when the government announced that there will be a long awaited change to divorce law.

Currently one party needs to prove their spouse was at fault to divorce if they have not been separated for at least two years (five years if the other party doesn’t agree to divorce.)

The new law will bring in a ‘no fault divorce’, hopefully ending the ‘unnecessary blame game’ particularly when parents need to continue a relationship where they have children together.

The government announced on Tuesday that divorce laws in England and Wales would be changed as soon as parliamentary time became available.

Howells Solicitors has one of the largest and most experienced Family Law departments in the North. We advise on the full spectrum of matrimonial work and children law matters. Head of the Department and Partner Alyson Siddall is ‘hugely experienced’ and Partner and Head of the Rotherham office, Sharon Lockwood is a ‘key name to note for financial work’ (Legal 500 2018).
