Alex Nolan is a qualified solicitor who joined Howells Criminal Law department after obtaining his master’s degree in Professional Legal Practice (LLM). He is an accredited police station representative and regularly attends clients in custody around the counties police stations.
Prior to working for Howells he was a paralegal for the Crown Prosecution Service where he was regularly instructed on high profile casework including homicide cases.
Alex has a passion for criminal law, human rights, and legal information technology developments.
As a result of his work on a high profile murder case Alex was given a commendation by a High Court Judge.

2018 – Operation Zeus – Prosecution of two principals for attempted murder with significant witness intimidation issues. Counsel from the Organised Crime Division of CPS wrote to say that without Alex’s effort and initiative he would not have been able to keep the trial running, and that in effect Alex 'took over the role of an efficient and shrewd junior'.
2017, High Court Judges Commendation- Operation Martinez
Alex received a commendation from The Honourable Mr Justice Males for diligence and hard work in the prosecution of a three-month, five defendant murder trial. The case was especially complex because of the number of defendants all represented by Queens Counsel, the vulnerability of witnesses and some of the defendants, the number of crime scenes, and the vast volume of CCTV and phone evidence that was relied upon.
2017 – R v A – Deaths of two women in a taxi which was poorly driven, a number of others were also seriously injured as a result. Prosecution counsel wrote to CPS regarding Alex’s 'attention and excellent work' on the case. He highlighted Alex’s proactive approach to dealing with issues involving a late expert reports, police disclosure failings and his assistance with supporting the bereaved families who attended court.
