Wrongful Arrests & False Imprisonment

False Imprisonment & Wrongful Arrests

The right to freedom of movement without fear of a wrongful arrest or detention is a fundamental civil liberty. The police have powers of arrest which allow them to detain a person, lawfully, in certain conditions. However arrest is a power of last resort and the police should consider whether there is an absolute need.

If you have been wrongfully arrested or detained our Civil Liberties team can explain the steps to take in order to make a complaint. Our team will assess the facts you give and advise you on the best course of action.

Whilst you may feel that you are powerless against the police, you have the right to justice as you would if you had been wronged by any other authority.

Our Fees

Different levels of legal aid may be available for your case and we always assess new enquiries to see if they are in scope for funding – this will depend on the facts/type of case and means assessment. Wherever a case falls outside of scope we may be able to offer you a fixed fee and/or our hourly rates. All these funding options can be discussed with our new enquiry team.
